I’m an author, journalist and book editor with 15 years experience producing in-depth examinations of society, and a specialty in narrative non-fiction and “big idea” books. My expertise: climate & environment, art & culture, justice & equity, political ideas, the immigrant experience, and social movements. I have a knack for explaining wonky topics–property law, cutting-edge astrophysics research, electoral models–and weaving them into evocative, personal narratives to produce a compelling story.
I’m currently ghostwriting the memoirs of a humanitarian tech entrepreneur who is bringing financial services to tens of millions of unbanked Bangladeshis, and a democracy activist whose political journey and travels are driving his efforts to change America’s electoral system. I’ve also recently worked as a collaborative writer on the history of an organization serving New York City’s marginalized youth, drawing on interviews I performed with dozens of former members, staff, and parents.
My own book, Free the Land: How We Can Fight Poverty and Climate Chaos, was sold at auction, starred by Booklist and Bookpage, and described by the Boston Globe as “a bold manifesto that dreams big.” My essays and journalism have appeared in Harper’s, New York Times, New Yorker, Guardian, and The Nation. For a decade, I was a developmental and commissioning editor at Verso Books, working with journalists, scholars and intellectuals to conceive and produce “big idea” books, investigative reporting, manifestos, and graphic novels, and evaluating thousands of book proposals.
Beyond my writing and editing expertise, my background and interests span music, science and the outdoors; I would also love to take on projects touching on these subjects! I am a classically trained pianist, and produced music with the dark pop band Odd Rumblings; I am an avid surfer, skier, snowboarder, and hiker, and played hockey as a child; and while earning a physics degree at the University of Toronto, I worked as a lab assistant in mechanical engineering and atmospheric physics.
